March has come and gone all too quickly. Our Spring Show at Oakley went very well, considering that our pre-arranged display at Conkers Garden centre to advertise the event was cancelled by Conkers at the last minute. The Show was well attended by the public who took advantage of the various items for sale and the delicious cakes kindly donated by Gill Britnell and Maureen Spencer. This attendance was mainly due to Steve Langston's efforts re distributing posters and to the members who advertised the event by displaying a poster in their local area.
Thames Valley put on an excellent display as did NHOS thanks to David Martin and Maureen Spencer who arranged the table display of orchids brought in by various members.
Tricia Garner will hopefully have photos of the event on our website where you will see for yourselves the quality of the displays. The local Gazette also have pictures.
It was slightly disappointing that so few members attended as they missed out on a delightful and interesting social event. It was proposed as a normal club meeting, the object of which was to promote interest in the society.
Thames Valley and NHOS judged each other's display and a bottle of wine was awarded to the 1st places on both tables. Sheila Bicknell came 1st on our table and also won 'Best in Show' which was judged by Ian Plested.
With the help of the cake donations already mentioned, catering made a profit of £34.64.
Thanks once again to all committee members and members who made the event worth while.
I have been asked by Graham Westmore to thank everyone who has sent Thelma their get well wishes. She has all the cards displayed on the wall behind her bed.
Everyone should have a note of the programme for 2010. Thanks to Gill for her efforts. It is not easy when there are so few decent speakers to call on.
