Dear Members,
At the last meeting on June 20th, Peter Mottershead and his wife Pauleen presented a very enjoyable talk about orchids to be found in Cyprus and also another talk on Alpine flowers. They are both interested in the natural history of places and their talk reflected this, as the presentation was not solely concentrated on just the orchids. Peter's slides gave an overall representation of the indigenous flora, with a few archealogical sites thrown in for good measure, and was all the more interesting for it.
Many thanks to the members who attended, especially as it was a lovely Sunday afternoon which could have been spent in the garden and Father's Day.
After Peter had finished his talk, there was an impromptu Q&A session about problem plants. A few of us had queries and it was very helpful to be given advice from our more experienced members. If you have any query, please bring plant if possible,[if thought to have a pest or disease, then please keep it isolated/contained from displays] and I'm sure a few minutes after the speaker has finished can be devoted to problem solving.
Ken's plea for an auditor to audit 2009 accounts has been answered. Linda Phillips volunteered at once, but has no wish to receive the token that was offered. So many thanks to Linda for that.
Thanks also to Michael Moon and Gill Britnell who also had asked willing friends and family. There will be another audit soon for 2010, so perhaps Ken can call on their services at a later date.
We will have the usual plant auction. It will be perfectly acceptable to put a reserve price on your plant for sale. As with our members' sales, any kind of plant can be brought along. The usual 10% commission from buyer and seller to go to society funds.
Food will be in the form of a cold buffet and seeing as this is a lunch ,will be ready at 2pm. Tickets will be £6 each person, payable on the day. There is no restriction to the numbers of friends or family you may want to bring with you. Alcoholic drink will not be provided but soft drinks will.
I will need to know numbers by SUNDAY JULY 11th. A minimum number of 15 will have to be attained for the lunch to go ahead. As you will appreciate, it would not be viable to do with less.
Lot numbers for the auction will be given on request when ordering tickets.
