Newsletter January 2008

The New Year will start with the Annual auction, Stephen Taylor will be the auctioneer, unless his grandchild, due about the same date doesn’t cause concern. There will also be a judging table, please remember that plants for the judging table must only appearon the table once in any six months. Subscriptions can be paid at the auction.

Please remember that the AGM has been transferred to March.

Saturday February 16th brings our Annual Show at our new location, The Barn, Viables, The Harrow Way, Basingstoke. RG22 4BJ. We had a good show there last year and hope to do so this year.

We will also need help from members, with presents for the tombola there are quite a few bargins at the moment like 2 for 1, cakes for the refreshment area, plants for our display on the small stage, as well as orchids, we will also need some large and small foliage plants. Please put them in black pots and label them with your name. We will be requiring the plants between 08.30 and 09.30 on the morning, tombola bits can come later. The show will be opening at 11.00 this year so we will need the plants no later than 09.30.

Please note that on your programme slips handed out at the Xmas party the time states 12.00 as the opening time, but this year it has been altered to 11.00

We will also need members to give a bit of their time on the Saturday, helping with 1,001 jobs that need to be done throughout the day if you haven’t already put your name down just ask and you will be found a task, be it large or small. We would like this year’s show to be successful, with your help we can achieve this.

The orchid traders selling plants will be Plesteds, Ratcliffe and Laurence Hobbs, with Plants Plus selling sundries and Just in Glass.

Not much to do in the greenhouse at present just keep an eye open for bugs, watch for new growths, make sure the heating is working.

Attached to this letter are two flyers for the show (for those who couldn’t make the Xmas do) if you could put them in a prominent public place in your locality, the other is a programme for the next six months.

I shall not be at the January meeting (I shall be at the WOC Florida).

Hope to see you at the Show
