Programme secretary

Lorraine Rudd has moved to Wales. Shelia Bicknell has kindly stepped into the breach and is in the process of completing the programme for 2006. Because of this we will only publish the first half of next years' programme in January, and the second half later in the year.

Orchid tips for autumn

Cymbidiums should be brought in from outside now. Check for snails and unwanted guests, clean leaves before bringing inside. It may be a good idea to put slug pellets around to catch the small unseen snails.

Pleonies should be brought inside to a cold area with good light, and water withheld, leaves should be removed when they fall to avoid rot.

Watering in the greenhouse should be easing off, remember that some plants will soon need a winter rest from watering.

Nobile type Dendrobiums should be having a period of cold weather to force the flower buds to form.

Congratulations to David Martin -

David Martin has won a bottle of champagne from Dr Henry Oakeley, (President of the OSGB) for showing Phalaenopsis Pandora with more than 50 blooms at a recent OSGB meeting, also seen at NHOS meeting last month. Henry didn't think it was possible from an amateur grower.

David's had 51 Flowers! Picture below.

NHOS Show February

Our annual show will be as usual in February. Please keep this date free, as we shall need "all hands on deck" Even if it's only for a few hours we will really appreciate your help. Last year was a huge success but very hard and tiring work for those involved.

There will be a tombola, so any unwanted Christmas presents and perhaps the odd extra whilst shopping will boost the prizes we will have to offer.

Happy Growing
